17 firms seek excuse for wage payment
SEMARANG: Head of the Central Java Manpower and Transmigration Office Mudji Hartono said on Friday that at least 17 companies in the province had asked to delay paying the new minimum wage for workers.
The companies argued that they were facing financial difficulties, he said.
"We have set up a team to appraise the 17 companies to determine whether they deserve to be excused or not," Mudji said.
He said they were mostly food, cigarette, garment and plastic companies as well as hotels based in the Semarang, Demak, Kebumen and Karanganyar regencies.
The province has set the monthly minimum wages at between Rp 324,300 and Rp 343,250 per month depending on the regency. --Antara
