17,328 Residents Flock to Leave Jakarta After Eid, What is the Reason?
Jakarta’s Civil Registry and Population Administration Office (Disdukcapil DKI Jakarta) has recorded 17,328 residents applying to move out of the city following Eid in 2026.
This was explained by the Head of Disdukcapil DKI Jakarta, Denny Wahyu, during a working meeting with Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD at the DPRD Building on Thursday (23/4/2026).
“Applications for population administration services to move outside Jakarta have doubled, Sir, 17,328 souls,” said Denny on Thursday.
“What’s interesting is that the reason for leaving Jakarta is housing,” Denny stated.
Based on Disdukcapil data, the applications were recorded from 25 March to 22 April 2026.
In detail, 5,751 people or 33.6% moved due to housing issues.
Then, 4,563 people (26.66%) moved for family reasons, and 1,413 people (8.26%) due to employment.
The rest moved for education, health, and other reasons.
“Housing accounts for 5,751 souls or 33.60%, family 4,563 souls or 26.66%, employment 1,413 souls, the rest for education, health, and others,” he explained.
Denny clarified that many residents are moving to align their addresses with their current places of residence.
Administrative regulations require residents who have lived in a place for more than one year to process address changes.
Additionally, Disdukcapil is also registering non-permanent residents, namely those whose ID cards are outside Jakarta but who work and live temporarily in the capital.
This migration phenomenon typically increases after Eid, as many residents decide to settle outside Jakarta.
