167 corruption convicts at Sukamiskin prison receive Independence Day remissions

Bandung (ANTARA) - The Class I Sukamiskin Penitentiary in Bandung has granted remissions in conjunction with the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence to 167 corruption convicts.

Head of the Class I Sukamiskin Penitentiary Nanank Syamsudin said in Bandung on Monday that 122 general offenders also received remissions during the independence commemoration.

“There are 167 corruption convicts who received remissions. There are 122 general offenders,” he said.

Thus, 289 of the total 429 inmates at Sukamiskin Penitentiary received sentence reductions on the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

Nanank said the amount of remission received by inmates varied, ranging from one to six months.

Of all the remission recipients, one inmate was released immediately after receiving a six-month sentence reduction.

Sukamiskin Penitentiary did not disclose the identity of the inmate who was immediately released.

“It varies, the smallest is one month and the largest is six months,” Nanank said.

Nanank explained that the granting of remissions refers to Law Number 22 of 2022 on Corrections.

According to him, inmates who receive remissions must, among other things, demonstrate good behaviour and meet the sentence requirements to obtain a reduction in their prison term.

The proposal for granting remissions to inmates is carried out online through the Corrections Database System (SDP).

Nanank said the granting of remissions also resulted in savings of more than Rp590 million in prisoner meal costs.

“The savings in prisoner meal costs are due to the granting of remissions,” he said.
