16-Year-Old Student in Lombok Arrested After Slashing Man with Celurit
A 16-year-old student identified as MRG from Batu Layar, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), was arrested by police after slashing a man with a celurit in Mataram. The suspect was apprehended hours after the incident. Selaparang Police Chief Inspector Zulharman Lutfi stated the assault occurred in front of the NTB Regional Tourism Promotion Agency (BPPD) office in the early hours of Tuesday (26 May 2026). ‘We apprehended the suspect within hours of the incident, less than 24 hours after it occurred,’ Zulharman said on Tuesday. The altercation began when both parties were involved in a fight. The suspect, armed with a celurit, immediately swung it at the victim. The victim attempted to block the attack with bare hands, resulting in cuts on his right arm and shoulder. ‘The victim requires medical treatment at a hospital,’ he added. Following the report, police visited the crime scene and interviewed witnesses. Through their investigation, the suspect’s identity and whereabouts were confirmed, leading to MRG’s arrest. In addition to securing the suspect, police seized the celurit and the motorcycle used by the perpetrator. ‘The suspect and evidence have been secured at Selaparang Police Station, while the victim continues to receive treatment,’ he said. The suspect faces charges under Article 466 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for assault.
