16 UI Law Students Suspected of Harassment Brought Forward, Nearly Attacked by Dozens of Female Students in Open Hearing

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — An open hearing forum to demand accountability from 16 students at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI) suspected of sexual harassment was held in the early hours of Tuesday (14/4/2026). The open hearing was organised through collaboration between the FH UI Student Executive Board (BEM) and the FH UI Dean’s office. Based on a video uploaded by the Instagram account @depok24jam, the perpetrators appeared to be jeered by the attending students as they entered the hearing room. Some perpetrators entered through the front door, while others through the back. The jeers and shouts from the audience filled the room noisily. Some even pointed towards the perpetrators while conveying messages with emotional expressions. However, when the hearing was about to begin, initially only two perpetrators were present first. This situation triggered a reaction from dozens of female students who demanded that all perpetrators be brought forward. “Only two? Only two?” the female students shouted. FH UI BEM Chairman Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo stated that the open hearing essentially proceeded without violence. The victims also attended the hearing. He confirmed that the victims had shouted to express their frustration directly to the perpetrators. “Certainly, there was a response from the victims who were restless and angry about the perpetrators’ actions,” Dimas said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Tuesday (14/4/2026). Dimas explained that the high tension in the hearing occurred because not all perpetrators were initially willing to attend. Initially, only two out of the 16 perpetrators were willing to attend. This was because some of the perpetrators’ parents were holding back their children from participating in the hearing. Some parents even brought their children to the location but did not immediately allow them to enter.
