Depok, Kompas.com - Sixteen students from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law (FH UI), suspected of harassing 27 people within the faculty environment, hold positions in campus organisations.

The victims’ legal representative, Timotius Rajagukguk, stated that the perpetrators’ positions on campus made the victims initially afraid to report the case.

“This is extremely difficult for the victims. Why? Because there are 16 perpetrators. All of them hold positions on campus,” Timotius said during a press conference at the UI campus in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

“This case has been occurring since 2025. The victims have known they were harassed since 2025,” Timotius added.

He revealed that out of the 27 victims, 20 are female students, while the other seven are lecturers. All are from the FH UI environment.

Timotius said the student victims include classmates, juniors, and even seniors of the perpetrators.

“So we can all imagine how they felt since 2025 every time they entered the campus, every time they entered class,” he said.

“They knew that at any time the perpetrators could talk about them, harass them in front of them, in their presence, using private chat groups,” he explained.

Timotius continued that the victims have been collecting evidence of the alleged sexual harassment since 2025.

One piece of evidence comes from information about a private LINE chat group revealed by one of the perpetrators. The perpetrator themselves is a member of that chat group.

Therefore, Timotius said, the chat evidence currently circulating on social media was obtained legally.

“I emphasise that the chat was obtained legally. There was no pressure, no threats,” Timotius stated.

It was previously reported that 16 UI students are suspected of committing sexual harassment against female students in the faculty.
