16 UI Law Faculty Students Apologise, Admit to Harassing Female Student
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Sixteen students from the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia (FH UI) have admitted to their actions in sexually harassing a female student in the same faculty. The sexual harassment was carried out through conversations in WhatsApp and LINE group chats. The Chairman of the Executive Body of Students (BEM) FH UI, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, said the incident initially came to light when the 16 students suddenly apologised in their class group. “The apologies were issued by the 16 perpetrators. And regarding their status, they all admit to their actions,” Dimas told Kompas.com on Monday (13/4/2026). Dimas explained that the apologies were conveyed by the alleged perpetrators on Saturday (11/4/2026) leading into the early hours of Sunday (12/4/2026). All the perpetrators are students from the 2023 batch at FH UI. The perpetrators issued their public apologies through the class group. However, the apologies were made without clear context. According to Dimas, the perpetrators sent the apology messages first, before news of the alleged sexual violence went viral on social media platform X. “The perpetrators sent messages that were jokes and, apologies for the phrasing, degradations of the dignity of their peers in FH,” Dimas revealed. “Most of them were in the form of demeaning messages with a sexual tone,” he said. These messages were sent in conversations in the LINE and WhatsApp groups. Based on the investigation conducted by BEM FH UI, the groups on both social media platforms had 16 members. “So far, the people in those groups number 16,” Dimas stated.
