Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs at the University of Indonesia (UI), Erwin Agustian Panigoro, is following up on allegations of sexual harassment by 16 students from the UI Faculty of Law (FH). “Essentially, the University of Indonesia has become aware of and is responding to this issue seriously,” Erwin stated when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (13/4/2026). “The faculty strongly condemns all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity and contradict legal values and academic ethics,” read a statement from the UI Faculty of Law posted on its Instagram. Currently, the process of tracing and verification is underway meticulously and comprehensively by the faculty and the University of Indonesia, in coordination with the UI Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPKS). “The university guarantees protection, confidentiality, and support for those affected,” Erwin said. It was previously reported that 16 students allegedly committed sexual harassment against a female student from the UI Faculty of Law. The alleged sexual harassment went viral on social media in the form of conversations leading to sexual matters in a social media group. The Chair of the Faculty of Law UI Student Executive Body (BEM FH UI), Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, confirmed the incident. “The apology was conveyed by the 16 perpetrators. And regarding their status, they all admit to their actions,” Dimas said when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday. “So actually, for us, there is already their admission; they are perpetrators, not just alleged perpetrators,” he emphasised. The apology was conveyed by the perpetrators on Saturday (11/4/2026) leading into the early hours of Sunday (12/4/2026). They are students from the 2023 intake of FH UI. “These perpetrators conveyed their apology openly through the class group, without any clear context,” Dimas explained.
