16 UI Law Faculty Students Allegedly Committed Sexual Violence
The Chairman of the Student Executive Board (BEM) at the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, has confirmed allegations of a sexual violence case involving 16 students as perpetrators. “Sexual violence has occurred involving UI Law Faculty students as the perpetrators,” Dimas said when contacted on Monday, 13 April 2026.
He explained that initial information about the case emerged after the alleged perpetrators sent an apology request through their year group chat. From there, it was revealed that there were sexually toned conversations discussing another female student in their internal group. Those conversations then circulated on social media.
Dimas said that the BEM FHUI is currently cautious in providing the chronology to protect the victim. He could only explain that the BEM has coordinated with the faculty to follow up on the report.
“The hope is that the perpetrators receive the strictest possible sanctions, prioritising the victim’s interests and the creation of a safe space,” he stated.
The form of harassment allegedly committed by the 16 students was verbal and digital. Dimas said there is no indication yet of the distribution of the victim’s photos. However, Dimas said it does not rule out the possibility of further findings as the examination process continues.
He emphasised the BEM’s firm stance on the case. “I am very disappointed with the sexual violence that occurred and will not tolerate actions that do not side with the victim,” he said.
The Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs at UI, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said the campus is aware of the alleged sexual harassment case. Currently, Erwin said, the campus has responded to the case seriously.
He emphasised that the faculty and university strongly condemn all forms of behaviour that degrade human dignity. Erwin said the tracing and verification process is ongoing. “Currently, the tracing and verification process is being carried out carefully and thoroughly by the Faculty and University of Indonesia in coordination with the UI PPKS Task Force,” he stated.
He said UI guarantees protection, confidentiality, and support for those affected. “We ask all parties, including media colleagues, to respect the ongoing process,” he said.
