16 New Cultural Heritage Objects Designated by DKI Provincial Government, Including Sarinah
The Jakarta Provincial Government through its Department of Culture has officially designated 16 new objects as cultural heritage sites throughout 2025. This step was taken to strengthen protection of historical assets that form part of Jakarta’s identity and intellectual wealth.
The Head of the Jakarta Department of Culture, Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, stated that this designation represents part of a sustainable strategy in preserving cultural heritage. The selected objects have undergone strict verification by the Jakarta Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB).
“This designation is our commitment to protecting, developing, and utilising cultural heritage as an important asset for the region. These objects have significant value for history, science, and the formation of public character,” said Miftah, as reported by Antara on Saturday (14 March).
Among the 16 designated objects are several iconic names that serve as national symbols and economic centres of Jakarta, including Merdeka Palace, State Palace, and the Sarinah Building in Central Jakarta.
With this addition, the total number of cultural heritage sites in Jakarta now reaches 322 objects, comprising 266 buildings, 31 structures, 21 objects, and two each of sites and areas.
Miftah emphasised that his office will continue to conduct data collection and provide guidance to object owners to ensure optimal preservation. He also invited the public to actively maintain this heritage to ensure it is preserved for future generations.
