Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint team of officials has dismantled 16 illegal structures built over a water channel in the Jalan Wijaya Karta area, RW 03, Kuningan Barat Ward, Mampang Prapatan District, South Jakarta.

“Those structures were dismantled because they were built over the water channel and obstructed road access,” said the Head of Kuningan Barat Ward, Isno Usnodo, in Jakarta on Thursday.

Isno stated that the structures were mostly semi-permanent and primarily used for trading. Before the dismantling, his office had issued warnings starting a month earlier.

The process began with deliberations with residents, socialisation, and several discussions.

“After the dismantling, this area will be restored to its function as the main water channel in RW 03 and a pavement for pedestrians,” he said.

He added that the previous traders had been directed to join the Jakpreneur programme or occupy selling locations at Jakpreneur Space (JS) provided by the South Jakarta District Office of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM).

“Hopefully, this becomes the best effort in tidying up the environment to make it neater, more beautiful, and comfortable for residents,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) of Kuningan Barat Ward, Makmun, added that the dismantling was carried out persuasively and humanely by 75 joint personnel consisting of Satpol PP, PPSU officers, the District Environmental Office, the District Transportation Office, and other related parties.

“The dismantling followed SOP, from socialisation, issuance of warning letters, to the actual dismantling. The process ran smoothly and conducively,” he said.
