155,908 Inmates Receive Eid Remission in 2026, 1,162 Granted Immediate Release
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas), through the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas), has granted Special Remission (RK) to 154,785 inmates and Special Sentence Reduction (PMP) to 1,123 juvenile offenders. In total, 155,908 recipients received special remission and special PMP for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebration.
Ditjenpas Kemenimipas explained that special remission and special PMP serve as a form of state appreciation for the positive behavioural changes of inmates and juvenile offenders during their sentences.
Of the total 154,785 inmates receiving special Eid remission, 1,143 were granted immediate release. Meanwhile, of the 1,123 juvenile offenders receiving special PMP, 19 were immediately allowed to breathe free air. Combined, this totals 1,162 individuals who were released immediately.
“Special Eid RK and PMP are given as a form of state recognition to inmates who have demonstrated positive behavioural changes and have actively participated in rehabilitation programmes. We hope this moment will further motivate them to continue improving themselves and preparing to return to society,” stated the Director General of Corrections at Kemenimipas, Mashudi, while reading the remarks of Minister of Imipas Agus Andrianto at the Gunung Sindur Narcotics Prison, on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Mashudi explained that the granting of remission and sentence reductions impacts state budget efficiency. “The potential savings amount to Rp109,261,845,000,” he said.
“The granting of special RK and PMP is expected to motivate all inmates to continue behaving well, actively participating in rehabilitation, and preparing to return to society as more productive and responsible individuals,” he hoped.
Mashudi also used this occasion to hand over premiums to inmates who actively participated in empowerment activities such as UMKM training and food security programmes. Ditjenpas, Mashudi added, also provided social assistance (bansos).
“This activity was also carried out simultaneously by all regional offices, prisons, and detention centres throughout Indonesia, namely the distribution of Remission and PMP, Premiums, and Social Assistance,” he clarified.
The highest number of recipients of special Eid remission and PMP this year came from the West Java Ditjenpas Regional Office with 18,335 people, the North Sumatra Ditjenpas Regional Office with 15,621 people, and the East Java Ditjenpas Regional Office with 14,244 people.
