155,908 Inmates Receive Eid al-Fitr Remission in 2026, 99% Prisoners
The Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Ditjen Kemenimipas) has granted Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE remission to 155,908 inmates throughout Indonesia.
The granting of the remission decision letter (SK) was carried out symbolically by Dirjenpas Mashudi at the Gunung Sindur Narcotics Penitentiary (Lapas) in Bogor on Saturday (21/3), as reported by Antara.
Mashudi stated that the provision of special remission (RK) and sentence reduction (PMP) to inmates represents the state’s commitment to providing citizens’ rights after they have successfully undergone good rehabilitation.
“Special RK and PMP for Eid al-Fitr are given as a form of the state’s appreciation to inmates who have demonstrated positive behavioural changes and have followed rehabilitation programmes well,” Mashudi said in his statement.
Of the 155,908 recipients of special remission, 154,785 remissions were given to prisoners and 1,123 to juvenile inmates.
From the total prisoners receiving Eid al-Fitr RK, 153,642 individuals received RK I or partial sentence reduction, while 1,143 received RK II or immediate release.
Meanwhile, 1,104 juvenile inmates received Special PMP I and 19 received Special PMP II or immediate release.
The largest number of recipients of Eid al-Fitr RK and Special PMP this year came from the West Java Regional Office (Kanwil) of Ditjenpas with 18,335 people, North Sumatra Kanwil Ditjenpas with 15,621 people, and East Java Kanwil Ditjenpas with 14,244 people.
During the event, Mashudi delivered a written speech from Minister of Imipas Agus Andrianto, stating that the remission is a form of the state’s appreciation to inmates.
“We hope this momentum will further motivate them to continue improving themselves and preparing to return to society,” he said.
According to him, the remission policy has a positive impact on state budget efficiency.
“This policy also impacts state budget efficiency in meeting inmates’ meal needs, with potential savings reaching Rp109,261,845,000,” he revealed.
The provision of Special RK and PMP is expected to motivate all inmates to continue behaving well, actively participating in rehabilitation, and preparing to return to society as more productive and responsible individuals.
On that occasion, Mashudi also handed over premiums to working inmates as well as social assistance for the community and families of inmates.
“This activity was also carried out simultaneously by all regional offices, penitentiaries, and detention centres throughout Indonesia, namely the handing over of Remission and PMK, Premiums, and Social Assistance,” Mashudi said.
Dirjenpas Mashudi also visited rehabilitation facilities and services at the Gunung Sindur Narcotics Penitentiary and the Special Gunung Sindur Penitentiary, including public visitation services for inmates.
Present at the remission handover were the Director of Internal Compliance of Ditjenpas, the Head of the West Java Regional Office of Ditjenpas, the Head of the Gunung Sindur Narcotics Penitentiary, and the Heads of UPT in the Greater Bogor area.
