155,908 Inmates Receive Eid al-Fitr Remission, 1,162 Immediately Released
JAKARTA - A total of 155,908 inmates across Indonesia have received Special Remission (RK) and Special Sentence Reduction (PMP) for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, with 1,162 of them being immediately released. This figure includes 154,785 inmates and 1,123 juvenile offenders. Mashudi stated that of the total inmates receiving remission, 153,642 individuals were granted RK I, which is a partial reduction in sentence duration. Meanwhile, 1,143 people received RK II, resulting in immediate release. For juvenile offenders, 1,104 individuals were granted Special PMP I, and 19 received Special PMP II, leading to immediate release. “We hope this moment further motivates them to continue improving themselves and preparing to return to the midst of society,” he said. He emphasised that the granting of remission is the state’s commitment to fulfilling the rights of inmates who have undergone good rehabilitation. He mentioned that the potential savings from this policy amount to Rp 109.26 billion, primarily from reduced consumption needs for inmates. In addition, Mashudi revealed that the largest number of remission and PMP recipients come from the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections with 18,335 people, followed by North Sumatra with 15,621 people, and East Java with 14,244 people.
