New York (ANTARA) - A total of 152 countries supported a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on Thursday (17/9) rejecting the US decision to obstruct the Palestinian delegation from participating in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, United States.

These nations urged the US to rescind the decision, as it is considered a blatant violation of the UN Headquarters Agreement. Under this agreement between the UN and the US, as the host nation, Washington is legally obligated to facilitate the entry and stay of diplomatic delegations, member states, and observers to ensure they can attend General Assembly meetings without hindrance.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the UN resolution, expressing appreciation for the stance taken by all supporting nations, including friendly and brotherly states that voted unanimously for the resolution.

The Ministry emphasised that the adoption of this resolution is effectively capable of thwarting attempts to prevent Palestine’s participation in the high-level segment and the series of General Assembly sessions.

Furthermore, the Ministry stressed that the voice of the Palestinian people will reach the UN, and President Mahmoud Abbas’s speech will be delivered as scheduled, at the designated time and date, via television broadcast.

The Ministry asserted that the outcome of this vote reinforces the presence of the Palestinian voice and thwarts efforts to silence Palestine and its struggle.

Moreover, the Ministry stated that it will continue to fight for the fate of the Palestinian people, seeking their protection and pursuing political, legal, and diplomatic avenues to resolve the Palestinian issue.

Concurrently, the Ministry remains committed to resisting and ending the occupation, colonial policies, settler violence, and other practices that undermine the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, with the ultimate goal of establishing an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
