152 Indonesian Students in Sabah CLC Participate in Talent Search Competition

Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) - A total of 152 Indonesian students at the Community Learning Centres (CLC) in the West Coast region of Sabah, Malaysia, participated in a talent search competition designed to foster student achievement. The event, titled ‘Pantai Barat Mencari Bakat’ (Parat Ikat) 202 National, was organised through a collaboration between the Learning Centre (LC) in Kota Kinabalu and the West Coast Teacher Cluster Community. The participants were drawn from eight junior high school-level CLCs spread across the West Coast region of Sabah.

“Parat Ikat was organised as a platform for the talents of CLC students,” said the Chairperson of the Parat Ikat Committee, Gunawang, during the opening ceremony in Sabah, Malaysia, on Saturday. The competition was held at the Indonesian School of Kota Kinabalu (SIKK) in Sabah. CLCs serve as essential educational services for the children of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, particularly for those whose parents work on plantations in the Sabah and Sarawak regions.

Participating CLCs included CLC St. Thomas, CLC Anak Bangsa, CLC Hanim, CLC Cerdas, CLC Grace Centre, CLC Lentera, CLC Tunas Harapan Bangsa, as well as representatives from the Indonesian School of Kota Kinabalu (SIKK). The competition featured several disciplines divided into four categories. The first category focused on sports, including futsal, mixed doubles badminton, and chess. The second category was academic, featuring science and mathematics olympiads. The third category covered the arts, including painting, solo singing, and creative partner dancing. The fourth category focused on skills, featuring English storytelling and culinary arts.

Winners in each discipline received medals and certificates of appreciation, alongside the opportunity to represent the Kota Kinabalu Learning Centre at the Arts and Sports Appreciation (APKRES) event organised by the Indonesian School of Kota Kinabalu. This year, CLC Tunas Harapan Bangsa emerged as the overall champion, securing 3 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals. Singgih Ade Triawan, a supervising teacher from CLC Tunas Harapan Bangsa, noted that this victory serves as motivation for students within their school and for all CLC students across the West Coast cluster to strive for greater achievements.
