JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A 15-year-old boy allegedly assaulted his sibling to death in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on Tuesday (24/2/2026).

Head of the Child and Family Protection Unit (PPA) of the North Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Ni Luh Sri Artini, said that the incident was a case of domestic violence because the perpetrator and victim were siblings and lived in the same house.

“It was indeed domestic violence, because they were siblings living in the same house. Physical violence in the household that resulted in death. That is Article 44, paragraph 3 of the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence,” said Sri when met by Kompas.com at the North Jakarta Metro Police, Wednesday (25/2/2026).

The incident occurred spontaneously. At that time, the victim was bending down to feed the pet.

“The victim was hit with a hammer, approximately 5 times on the head,” said Sri.

Based on witness testimony at the location, the victim was found to be still breathing before being taken to a hospital in the Kelapa Gading area.

The victim was then declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. The body was then autopsied at the RS Polri Kramat Jati before being buried.

“The autopsy was just completed, and then it was immediately buried in the local cemetery today,” explained Sri.

The police have examined at least seven witnesses, including local residents and doctors who helped take the victim to the hospital.

“And this is just a plan for us to upgrade the status from a child witness to a child in conflict with the law,” said Sri.

Because the perpetrator is a minor, the examination process is carried out with assistance.

“The examination was also assisted by Bapas (Child Guidance Institution), by family members, and then there was also assistance from legal aid. It’s complete,” she said.

For his actions, the perpetrator was charged with Article 44, paragraph 3 of the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence, with a maximum criminal penalty of 15 years in prison.
