15 Victims of KMP Aceh Hebat 2 Explosion Undergo Plastic Surgery in Hospital
Burn victims from an explosion in the engine room of the Motor Passenger Vessel (KMP) Aceh Hebat 2 are currently undergoing intensive care. At least 15 people were reported as victims in the incident, which occurred while the ship was docked at Ulee Lheue Port, Banda Aceh, on Friday (12/6) at around 10.45 WIB. All victims are being treated seriously at the dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital (RSUZA) in Banda Aceh. According to information gathered, the victims must undergo medical procedures including plastic surgery, reconstruction, and aesthetic treatment to address the burns they sustained. By 20.00 WIB, the medical team had completed surgical procedures on 14 victims. Debridement was performed on areas including the hands, face, and other body parts to prevent infection and accelerate recovery. “Only one remains who has not yet undergone the tissue cleaning operation. The others are finished for now. Hopefully they will recover quickly,” said Dr. Ghina Zuhaira, a medical professional at RSUZA Banda Aceh. The tragic event occurred shortly after the ship arrived from Weh Island, Sabang. KMP Aceh Hebat 2 departed from Balohan Port, Sabang, at around 08.00 WIB and arrived at Ulee Lheue Port at 10.00 WIB. The explosion on KMP Aceh Hebat 2 occurred approximately 45 minutes after the ship docked, precisely at 10.45 WIB. As of now, the exact cause of the engine room explosion is still under investigation by the authorities. Relevant agencies continue to conduct in-depth inquiries to determine the trigger of the incident that shocked residents in the port area.
