15 locals compete in Djarum Formula Asia

JAKARTA (JP): About 15 local drivers have confirmed their participation in the Djarum Formula Asia at Sentul International Circuit, near Bogor, scheduled for Nov. 22 and Nov. 23.

The competition is the third and fourth round in the series.

Among the 15 racers are Dandy Rukmana, Aldo Reynaldo (Star Mild team), Hari Darma, Stanley Iriawan, Moreno Soeprapto (Humpuss Racing), Fino Saksono (Primajasa), Satrio Hermanto (Panutan Racing), Toni Darmawan (Matari) and Chandra Alim (Djarum team).

The winner of the Formula Asia race will receive Rp 1 million while the runner-ups will each receive Rp 750,000 and Rp 500,000.

Spokeswoman Lily Darwina told The Jakarta Post yesterday that entrance to the race was free.

"We will hand out free tickets at the circuit. We hope that many more spectators will see the two-day race," Lily said.

She said that Bob R. E. Nasution, Indonesian Motor Sports Association chairman, was expected to open the race.

Apart from the race, there will also be other races including Group N, Super Car & Touring Car, BMW One Make Race, VW One Make Race and European Car One Make Race.

The Djarum Drag Race, which is limited to 50 racers, will also be held on Sunday, Nov. 23, from morning to afternoon as part of Formula Asia and not as a national championship series.

The Lucky Strike national drag race championship will be held at Sentul on Dec. 29.
