15 Consumer Goods with the Fastest Price Increases in 2026

Several consumer goods prices have been rising much faster than others this year, ranging from fuel costs to flight bookings and groceries. Data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures price changes between December 2025 and April 2026.

Energy-related categories dominate the rankings, but the trend is not limited to fuel. Travel costs have risen sharply, while certain food items have also recorded extraordinary increases. Heating oil recorded the largest increase of all categories, surging by 45.1% since the start of the year. Petrol prices also rose sharply, increasing by 39.8% during the same period.

This rise reflects the recovery of the energy market and higher crude oil prices. As fuel costs affect transport, manufacturing, and logistics, sustained increases in energy prices could have widespread economic impacts and contribute to higher costs elsewhere.

Costs related to travel experienced the most significant price hikes in 2026. Airfares rose by 21.6%, while hotel and motel prices increased by 19.3%. Public transport costs also rose by 13.5%, making travel more expensive across various modes of transport.

Food prices are moving in different directions this year. Tomato prices surged by 31.1%, making them one of the fastest-rising essentials in the CPI basket. Overall fresh vegetable prices rose by 7.1%, while coffee prices increased by 5.3%. At the same time, some staples have become cheaper; egg prices fell by 10.9%, while chicken and cheese prices each decreased by 1.0%.
