The Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) records that 15.3 million working-age residents, ranging from 15 to 69 years old, do not yet have bank accounts in 2025. LPS Commissioner Chairman Anggito Abimanyu stated that this figure equates to 5.31% of the total population in that year. Anggito noted that the high number of working-age individuals without bank accounts has drawn LPS’s attention. “We are focusing on working-age people who should already have their own accounts; there are 15.3 million residents without accounts who will be targeted by us and the Financial Services Authority (OJK),” he said during a working meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Thursday, 9 April 2026. Overall, there are 49.7 million residents in 2025 who do not have bank accounts. For the 5-14 age group, the number of residents without bank accounts reaches 33.6 million people. However, Anggito explained that in this age category, bank accounts are generally opened by parents. Meanwhile, for the 70-74 age group, there are 0.799 million residents without bank accounts. According to Anggito, LPS consistently highlights the high number of working-age residents without accounts in socialisation efforts with banks. This is because President Prabowo Subianto has directed that all Indonesian citizens should have bank accounts. “Thus, government programmes through direct assistance can be received directly without going through second or third parties,” Anggito said. On the other hand, LPS is also concerned about the increasing number of inactive or dormant bank accounts. In 2025, the number of inactive accounts grew by 9.23% compared to the previous year. Anggito assessed that inactive accounts have the potential to be misused.
