1,495 Trisakti students graduate
Over 1,490 graduates of the prestigious Trisakti University were honored in a gala ceremony at the Jakarta Convention Center in Central Jakarta yesterday.
More than 10,000 of their relatives, including Ali Sadikin, a well known opposition leader and former governor of Jakarta, packed the convention center as well as its lobbies to watch their beloved, decked out in black caps and gowns, rewarded for their long years of effort.
A university official told The Jakarta Post that Ali Sadikin was on hand because his nephew was among the graduates.
Six of the graduates received cum laude status because their academic indexes were greater than 3.5.
Indonesian campuses reward "A" academic achievement with four grade points.
The six diligent scholars were Lea Setianti of the Economic School (index 3.80), Eric Usthavia Frans of the School of Machine Engineering (3.70), Martin Wibisono of the School of Electronics Engineering (3.66), Titien of the Economic School (3.56), Christo Setiadi of the School of Industrial Engineering (3.55) and Ni Luh Chandrayani of the Civil Engineering School (3.52).
Trisulo, the chairman of the Trisakti Foundation, said that the university, established in 1965, has around 19,000 alumni in addition to the new grads. (09)
