147 Million People Have Travelled for Eid al-Fitr Homecoming 2026
JAKARTA - An estimated 147 million people have undertaken homecoming journeys during this year’s Eid al-Fitr period.
Deputy Minister of Transportation Suntana conveyed this based on mobile positioning data (MPD) from 13-29 March.
“Over 17 days, the number of people travelling totals 147 million. This is higher than our survey, which was just over 143, an increase of 2.5%,” said Suntana during a press conference at the Presidential Staff Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
“We are grateful for this achievement as Indonesians flock to celebrate Eid, engage in social activities, and reunite with family in joy, proceeding safely and smoothly,” he stated.
Furthermore, Suntana noted that the number of homecomers using public transport has increased compared to 2025.
The number of public transport passengers in 2026 is 23.54 million, compared to 21.23 million in 2025.
“The number of public transport passengers during this Eid period totals 23.54 million people. This represents an increase,” he explained.
In detail, passengers using road transport saw an 11.6% rise, sea transport a 9.86% increase.
“And for crossing modes, we were pleasantly surprised by the 15% rise,” he continued.
He then detailed that around 2.90 million vehicles left the Jabodetabek area during the Eid homecoming.
According to him, this figure also increased, as in 2025, 2.85 million vehicles departed Jabodetabek.
“A total of 2.90 million vehicles, or a 4% increase compared to the previous year,” he revealed.
He broke it down, with the majority, around 51.5%, heading east to Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, and East Java.
26.5% headed west to Banten and Sumatra.
“And 22% south to Bogor City, Bogor Regency, and my hometown of Sukabumi, sometimes for tourism,” he added.
