A total of 146 markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya will begin implementing a waste segregation movement starting in August 2026. Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director Agus Himawan stated that this movement is a concrete step towards creating a clean market environment and supporting Jakarta’s ambition to become a global city. “This movement is not merely ceremonial. It is a commitment and a real step for all of us to create a clean, healthy, hygienic, and comfortable environment for traders and visitors, in support of Jakarta as a global city,” Agus said on Friday (10/7/2026).

Agus explained that all markets under the company’s management have now been equipped with segregated waste bins as the initial phase of implementing source-level waste management. He noted that this initiative follows up on DKI Jakarta Gubernatorial Instruction Number 5 of 2026 concerning the Waste Segregation and Management Movement from the Source. He stressed that waste management must no longer focus solely on downstream processing but must begin at the source, including markets. “Starting August 2026, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government can no longer rely on the old pattern of disposing of waste at Bantargebang. Therefore, we are required to start the waste segregation movement from the source,” he said.

To ensure the programme’s sustainability, Perumda Pasar Jaya has established a 58-member task force (Satgas) for the Joint Clean Market Movement (Gebyar Pasar). This task force is responsible for supervising the implementation of waste segregation and providing education to traders and all market community members. “This task force will be the driving force, supervisor, and educational partner for the entire market community on an ongoing basis,” Agus explained. He expressed optimism that with hard work and consistency, the markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya can transform into clean, healthy, and modern facilities.

Meanwhile, La Ode Basir, a member of the Supervisory Board of Perumda Pasar Jaya, reminded everyone that the waste segregation movement must not stop at being a ceremonial activity. He emphasised that it must become a working culture within all markets managed by the company. “This movement must not just be a ceremony; it must give birth to a collective awareness and culture among the Pasar Jaya community. Waste segregation must become a culture in all the markets we manage,” La Ode stated.
