During the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period, it is predicted that 50.60% of the population, or 143.91 million people, will be traveling. This figure is based on a national survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKT) of the Ministry of Transportation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation predicts that the largest number of travelers during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday will come from West Java, totaling 30.97 million people, followed by Jakarta (19.93 million) and East Java (17.12 million).

In terms of destinations, the largest flow of travelers will be heading to Central Java, with 38.71 million people, followed by East Java (27.29 million) and West Java (25.09 million).

“This is the basis for us to jointly prepare for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation in a comprehensive manner,” said Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi in a statement on Wednesday (February 25).

Based on the same survey, the Ministry of Transportation noted that the most dominant mode of transportation will be private cars, with 76.24 million people, followed by motorcycles (24.08 million) and buses (23.34 million).

For the routes used, the majority of car users will choose toll roads, with 50.63 million people. After that, the majority of motorcycle users will choose alternative routes other than the main routes, with 8.65 million people.

“We urge the public to use public transportation to improve safety, reduce congestion, and reduce the risk of accidents due to high mobility during Eid,” said the Minister of Transportation.

The Ministry of Transportation has prepared supporting transportation infrastructure for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr transportation. Land transportation has been prepared with 31,000 bus units with a carrying capacity of 1.25 million passengers.

Then, sea transportation with 829 ship units with a carrying capacity of 3.26 million passengers, and infrastructure as many as 636 sea ports. As for crossing transportation, 255 ship units have been prepared with a carrying capacity of 6.15 million passengers and 770 thousand vehicles through 15 crossing routes and 29 ports.

Then, air transportation has been prepared with 392 aircraft units (serviceable) with 257 airports. Railway transportation has been prepared with 3,821 units of facilities with infrastructure as many as 668 stations.

As in previous years, the government will again provide transportation fare discounts to the public, including 100% discounts on crossing fares for port service fees or equivalent to 21.9% of the integrated ticket, during the period of March 12-31, 2026 (for 20 days).

Then, a 30% discount on sea transportation for all PELNI class economy ship routes, during the period of March 11-April 5, 2026 (for 26 days); a 30% discount on trains for economy tickets during the period of March 14-29, 2026 (for 16 days).

There is also a 17-18% discount on air transportation, applying to economy class tickets with domestic flight routes during the period of March 14-29, 2026 (for 16 days) for ticket purchases starting from February 10, 2026. (E-4)
