Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Police Deputy Chief, Senior Commissioner Dedi Prasetyo, announced that the projected population movement during the 2026 Eid holiday is estimated to reach 143.9 million people.

This figure represents a decline compared to the actual figure of 146.4 million recorded in 2025.

“Based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation, which was presented by the Transportation Minister, the projected population movement during the 2026 Eid holiday is estimated at 143.9 million people. This figure is lower than 2025’s figure of 146.4 million, representing a decrease of 2.5 million people or 1.75 per cent,” Dedi stated during an interview at the National Police University building in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Despite the projected decline, the National Police remain vigilant regarding the possibility of unexpected surges in movement on the ground.

To secure the outbound and return flows during Eid, the National Police will conduct a centralised Operation Ketupat spanning 13 days, from 13 to 25 March 2026.

A total of 161,243 personnel will be deployed in this operation to secure travel routes, crowded public areas, and other vital infrastructure.

The predicted travel flow is divided into two waves.

“The first wave is scheduled for 14 to 15 March 2026. The second wave is scheduled for 18 to 19 March 2026,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the peak return flow is expected to occur on 25-26 March 2026 for the first wave, and 28-29 March 2026 for the second wave.
