141 Minors Detained After Unrest Outside DPR Sent Home

A total of 152 minors were detained in connection with a riot following a protest outside the DPR/MPR building yesterday. Of that number, 141 children have been released.

“Of the 152, we have sent home 141 people,” said Director of PPA/PPO at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Rita Wulandari Wibowo, in Jakarta on Friday (28/8/2026).

She said that of the 151 children who were detained, 149 were male and three were female. Some of them were also out of school.

“And of that number, we identified that 123 were enrolled in school and 26 were not in school,” she explained.

From the examination results, indications were found that some children may come into conflict with the law or be named as suspects. Some of the other children are still waiting to be picked up by their parents.

“At present, there are still five children waiting to be picked up by their parents, two others have just been examined, and there is a new handover that we are still looking into,” she said.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya detained a number of people in connection with a demonstration outside the MPR/DPR building. Police said a group of rioters arrived after the demonstration had dispersed.

Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the group came to the front of the MPR/DPR building to disrupt public order and security. He added that the rioters also threw various objects at security officers.

“After the series of expressions of aspiration ended and most of the crowd had left the location, a group of rioters emerged who disrupted the public order situation, attempted to carry out destruction, acts of vandalism, and threw objects at officers,” Budi said during a press conference at his office in Jakarta.

He said officers were able to handle the group of rioters. Officers took action against those who carried out the destruction.

“Officers then took several police actions to stop the vandalism and destruction activities, so as to mitigate and prevent the spread of disturbances and ensure public safety around the location,” he said.
