140 golfers to play at Boedi Oetomo meet

JAKARTA (JP): Raising funds while playing a round of golf is the main idea behind the 1st Boedi Oetomo tournament to be staged at the newly established par-72 Gading Raya Golf Country Club next month.

Some 140 golfers, most of them alumni of SMA I, on Jl. Budi Utomo, one of the city's government-run high schools, are expected to take part in the one-day competition, committee chairman Benny Suwondo said yesterday.

"Money collected from the registration fees will be used for charity activities, including helping high school students in need of cash to continue their study," said Benny, who graduated from the school in the late 1960s.

Jakarta Governor Surjadi Soedirdja, his deputy Tb M. Rais and Minister of Transmigration Siswono Yudhohusodo, are among the SMA I alumni.

Golfers with a handicap of between 10 and 28 are allowed to take part in the competition, scheduled to be opened by Siswono firing a shotgun on Nov. 3. (rsl)
