Beijing (ANTARA) - A total of 139,700 babies were born through assisted reproduction services covered by China’s health insurance in the first half (H1) of 2026, according to the National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) on Wednesday (19/8).

Nationally, health insurance covered 1.7096 million visits for assisted reproduction services during the period, with the number of visits continuing to rise, according to the NHSA.

Based on the H1 2026 figures, nearly 300,000 babies are expected to be born with the support of China’s health insurance policy for assisted reproduction in 2026, the administration said.

During the first six months of 2026, direct costs for assisted reproduction services totalled 2.97 billion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,648), with health insurance funds covering more than 1.9 billion yuan of those costs.
