14 Watches Belonging to Asabri Corruption Convict Destroyed by Prosecutors as Counterfeit
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — A total of 14 watches belonging to Jimmy Sutopo, the convict in the money-laundering corruption case involving PT Asabri, were destroyed by the State Asset Recovery (Badan Pemulihan Aset, BPA) of the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office because the items were counterfeit and of no use.
“Because this concerns counterfeit goods, there are Intellectual Property Rights (Hak Kekayaan Intelektual) we must protect and it also does not benefit the state, therefore we have destroyed these goods,” said Anang Supriatna, Head of the Public Information and Legal Defence Centre of the Attorney General’s Office, to reporters in Jakarta, as reported by ANTARA on Thursday (21 May 2026).
He said that although the watches were fake, their price remained relatively high. “The price is substantial but far from the original price. If the original price, one watch could be in the billions. This one is only around Rp15 million. On average, around that,” he added.
Anang explained that the destruction is also a form of transparency by the Attorney General’s Office to counter narratives that the watches were siphoned off. “So, the narratives circulating on social media that they were embezzled are answered. From the outset of seizure, they were kept at Pegadaian, then examined by verifiers who are competent in their field,” he said.
After the destruction, the items were removed from the State Seized Goods list registered at the Jakarta Timur (East Jakarta) District Prosecutor’s Office.
BPA organised the BPA Fair, officially opened on 18 May and running until 21 May 2026. In the event, several items were auctioned, ranging from luxury cars and motorcycles to jewellery, designer bags and gold paintings.
