14 Regencies in East Java Hit by Drought, Only Bondowoso Requests Water Aid

The East Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has confirmed that only one regency has requested clean water distribution assistance, even though 14 regencies are experiencing drought. “So far, only Bondowoso Regency has requested clean water distribution assistance because several villages there are already experiencing severe drought,” said Head of East Java BPBD Gatot Subroto in Surabaya on Thursday (23/7).

East Java BPBD noted that 14 regencies in East Java are experiencing drought during this dry season. The 14 regencies are currently on alert and have not yet requested assistance for clean water distribution to address the crisis. Only Bondowoso Regency has received clean water distribution. “BPBD has been sending clean water for several days and will continue to do so until the need for clean water is met,” he said.

Although they have not requested assistance, information received indicates that several drought-affected areas have received clean water assistance from other agencies, such as the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri). BPBD East Java has prepared various measures to anticipate requests for assistance from regency-level BPBDs at any time, including tarpaulins and water tanks that can be used to store clean water.
