14 New Suspects in Little Aresha Daycare Case Not Yet Detained, Here's Why

Fourteen new suspects in the abuse case at Little Aresha daycare in Yogyakarta underwent questioning today. However, they have not been detained, even after the examination process. The Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit at the Yogyakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Apri Sawitri, explained that after the questioning of the 14 suspects is complete, her team must still conduct a case review before proceeding with detention. “For these 14 suspects, we are still carrying out examinations. Regarding detention, we will still hold a case review or internal meeting by the police first,” Apri clarified when met at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters on Monday (6/7/2026). The 14 new suspects consist of ten caregivers, two administrative staff, one security guard, and one household staff member. For the caregiver suspects, Apri stated that the alleged criminal acts are the same as those of the caregivers previously named as suspects. “The caregivers are the same as the previous ones. We previously named 11 caregivers as suspects, and now ten more, so the total number of caregivers is 21. These caregivers range from the baby class up to the kindergarten class at the Little Aresha daycare,” Apri said. Meanwhile, the other new suspects will be charged with articles concerning the negligence or failure to prevent the alleged criminal acts. It was previously reported that the police officially named 14 new suspects in the Little Aresha daycare case. The 14 individuals, who were previously witnesses, include caregivers, administrative staff, household staff, and a security guard. The Head of the Yogyakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Kompol Risky Adrian, stated that the naming of the 14 suspects was carried out following a case review on Thursday (2/7). During the review, the team identified criminal elements in the actions of the 14 individuals. The 14 individuals were part of a group of 17 witnesses who were subject to mandatory reporting. Adrian noted that for the remaining three individuals, no criminal elements were found. “From the case review, the participants were convinced that of the 17 individuals, only 14 had committed criminal acts. So, we see that there are criminal acts for which these 14 people must be held accountable,” Adrian explained. “For the other three people, we have not found any criminal elements in their actions. Their position is within the foundation. The three of them are indeed at the kindergarten, the kindergarten located at the front,” he added.
