As many as 14 illegal structures in North Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, have been dismantled. The structures were targeted due to frequently serving as locations for street crimes. “There are 14 illegal structures that have been dismantled,” said the Head of the Civil Service Police Unit for Sawah Besar Subdistrict, Central Jakarta City Government, Darwis Silitonga, in Jakarta, as reported by Antara on Thursday (16/4/2026). The illegal structures are located along the Kali Mati river flow, specifically at Jalan Rajawali Selatan XII, Gunung Sahari Utara Ward, Sawah Besar Subdistrict, Central Jakarta. In addition to being sites for street crimes, alcohol (miras) is often sold there. Darwis explained that local residents complained to the Gunung Sahari Utara Ward office because crimes such as pickpocketing and muggings frequently occur in the area. “Some of these illegal structures are often used as places to drink alcohol and hang out. And from community reports, street crimes frequently happen here,” he said. Darwis stated that the area dismantled by officials will be redeveloped by the Gunung Sahari Utara Ward office. Meanwhile, Acting Head of Gunung Sahari Utara Ward Ikhwan Julio Akbar said that after the enforcement by officials, the area will be redeveloped, such as creating a park and urban farming by planting productive crops like chillies and pak choi. “We will redevelop the area starting at the end of April and target completion by the end of June,” he said.
