14-Hour Evacuation and Repair After KA Bangunkarta Derailment Allows Rail Line at Bumiayu Station to Reopen
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daerah Operasi (Daop) 5 Purwokerto, Central Java, has confirmed that the rail line at Bumiayu Station in Brebes is now passable. Previously, the derailment of the KA Bangunkarta train caused a complete shutdown of the rail line starting from Monday (6/4) at 14:15 WIB. Recovery was achieved after an evacuation process and track repairs that lasted approximately 14 hours, with the line resuming operations on Tuesday (7/4) at 04:08 WIB. Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 5 Purwokerto, M As’ad Habibuddin, stated that this success resulted from the intensive work of the emergency response team, which operated non-stop since Monday afternoon. The handling included evacuating the KA Bangunkarta trainset and repairing and normalising the rails. Although the line has reopened, KAI is temporarily imposing speed restrictions on passing trains to ensure track geometry safety. As’ad added that the normalisation process is continuing gradually by field personnel. “Our focus is to ensure all safety aspects are met, so that in the near future this line can be traversed at normal speeds,” he said. KAI also expressed appreciation to all personnel involved in addressing the disruption, allowing rail travel connectivity in the Daop 5 Purwokerto area to recover quickly. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 4 Semarang, Central Java, took anticipatory and coordinative measures. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 5 Purwokerto, Central Java, prepared 10 bus units to evacuate passengers of the KA Bangunkarta on the Jombang–Pasar Senen route.
