14 Fire Incidents in Tangerang City Within Two Days, BPBD Urges Public Vigilance
The Tangerang City Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has recorded 14 fire incidents in the area within the last two days. The high number of occurrences was triggered by public negligence, particularly the open burning of rubbish and the careless disposal of cigarette butts. The Head of the Tangerang City BPBD, Mahdiar, issued a stern appeal to the public to stop the habit of burning rubbish and discarding cigarette butts indiscriminately. This prohibition is especially emphasised for vacant land overgrown with weeds, rubbish piles, and other dry areas. “We urge the public not to burn rubbish or discard cigarette butts carelessly,” Mahdiar stated on Monday (27/7). According to Mahdiar, the current dry season weather conditions are extremely risky. Hot air temperatures accompanied by strong winds can cause a small flame to become a large blaze in a short time. Based on field data, the majority of fires handled in the past two days were dominated by blazes in weeds, dry land, and rubbish piles. “During a dry season like this, we must always be vigilant. Because the dry season causes hot weather and strong winds, making it easier for fires to occur,” he explained, noting the dominant cause of fires was a lack of public attention to potential dangers. Furthermore, Mahdiar reminded residents to be proactive in prevention. If they see a fire spot or smoke plume in their neighbourhood, the public is asked to immediately report it to the fire department. This quick action is necessary so that the fire can be dealt with promptly before it spreads and causes greater losses.
