14,150 Tangerang Workers Join May Day 2026 at Monas
A total of 14,150 workers from Tangerang Regency, Banten, departed for the National Monument (Monas) area on Friday (1/5) to commemorate Labour Day or May Day 2026.
Thousands of workers began gathering in the morning at the Putra Daya Perkasa (PDP) Industrial Area, Pasar Kemis Subdistrict. The workers, who are members of the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPSI) AGN faction under Andi Gani Nena Wea, were transported to Jakarta using approximately 280 buses.
The journey of the worker contingent was escorted by police apparatus to ensure smooth and secure travel to the celebration venue.
Deputy Chairman of the KSPSI AGN Tangerang Regency Branch, Agus Darsana, stated that the presence of workers at Monas was not only to celebrate May Day but also to convey several aspirations to the government.
“Our goal in going to Monas is to celebrate May Day joyfully together with Mr Prabowo and to present the workers’ demands,” said Agus.
In the action, the workers brought several demands, including escorting the revision of the Manpower Law, implementation of the Domestic Worker Protection Law (PPRT), and the abolition of the outsourcing system.
In addition, the workers also highlighted the potential impact of global conflicts on employment, including the threat of layoffs (PHK).
They also pushed for the enactment of the Asset Confiscation Bill, protection of industries especially the textile sector, ratification of ILO Convention No. 190, and tariff adjustments for online motorcycle taxi drivers.
Other demands voiced included revisions to Law No. 2 of 2004 on the Settlement of Industrial Relations Disputes, as well as the appointment of honorary staff, particularly those with part-time PPPK status, as civil servants (ASN).
“Clearly, protection for Indonesian workers must be maximised, and the government in this regard must provide the best policies,” Agus stated.
