Pekanbaru (ANTARA) – A total of 138 treasurers from Merah Putih Village/Urban-Ward Cooperatives (KDKMP) in Riau province are taking part in training and competency certification to enable them to manage finances professionally, properly and accountably.

Riau’s Head of the Industry, Trade, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Agency (Disperindagkop UKM), Taufiq OH, said the participants came from 12 regencies and municipalities and had been divided between two venues in Pekanbaru. The training runs for four days, from 19 to 22 October 2026.

“The event has been split between two venues to accommodate participants from various regencies and municipalities in Riau, allowing the competency-improvement programme to reach more cooperative treasurers,” he said in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.

He added that the programme was being carried out with support from the Ministry of Cooperatives’ deconcentration funds for the 2026 fiscal year. It is specifically intended to improve KDKMP treasurers’ ability to carry out their duties and responsibilities.

During the training, participants are receiving material directly relevant to the financial management needs of cooperatives. This includes preparing cooperative financial statements, cooperative taxation and a treasurer competency test to assess participants’ abilities.

He said understanding how to prepare financial statements was essential to ensure every cooperative transaction was properly recorded and reported. Knowledge of taxation was also needed to help treasurers meet their administrative obligations in accordance with applicable regulations.

“The material provided to participants covers the preparation of cooperative financial statements, cooperative taxation and the treasurer competency test. This is what they will take away with them,” he said.

Alongside the training, the competency test is an important part of the programme. It is expected to provide a measurable assessment of participants’ abilities and equip them to perform the treasurer’s role in supporting KDKMP operations.
