138 Dengue Cases in Tasikmalaya City, Mostly Children

The number of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DBD) cases in Tasikmalaya City, West Java, continues to rise. From January to July 2026, 138 residents tested positive, with the majority of patients being children. The increase has led to several individuals requiring intensive care.

Suryaningsih, Secretary of the Tasikmalaya City Health Office, stated that the rise in cases is due to weather factors and persistently low public awareness regarding environmental cleanliness around homes. “During the dry season, the community should carry out mosquito nest eradication movements so that larvae in waterways and other places do not breed,” she said on Thursday (23/7/2026).

According to Suryaningsih, the Aedes aegypti mosquito attacks all age groups. However, children are the most affected, with 31 cases recorded in the 0-5 age group, 30 cases in the 6-12 age group, 22 cases in the 13-18 age group, 19 cases in the 19-30 age group, 25 cases in the 31-50 age group, and 11 cases in the over-50 age group.

“Dengue cases are spread across 10 sub-districts. We urge the public to remain vigilant and regularly clean their home environments, as many residents are still negligent about draining water from their bathtubs,” she said. She emphasised that the Aedes aegypti mosquito does not discriminate by age. The Health Office is working to reduce cases through education via the ‘One House, One Larva Monitor’ movement and mosquito nest eradication programmes. “We are concerned that cases may increase; we hope the numbers will decline this year and that residents will remain vigilant by cleaning their surroundings on a massive scale,” she concluded.
