137 suspects in drug cases arrested

JAKARTA: The police have arrested 137 suspects, including two
foreigners, in 111 drug cases in Greater Jakarta during the
period between May 7 and May 22.

Eighty four of them were suspected drug dealers, while the
rest were users, chief of detectives at the City Police'
narcotics division Adj. Sr. Comr. Carlo B. Tewu said over the
weekend.

More than eight kilograms of marijuana, six ounces of heroine,
411 ecstasy pills, 244 grams of low-grade heroine, shabu-shabu
(crystal methamphetamine), and 144 barbiturate pills were
discovered.

Carlo, however, failed to give any explanation about the
development of the case related to the crack down on an ecstasy
pill factory - believed to be one of the biggest in the world.

The National Police arrested the alleged owner of the factory
in Cipondoh, Tangerang, Ang Kiem Soei alias Tommy Wijaya, who
holds a Dutch passport.--JP
