The Bogor Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that 138 residents’ homes in Cijayanti Village, Babakan Madang Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, were flooded on Sunday (24 May). The disaster was triggered by the Cijayanti River overflowing after heavy rainfall persisted for a prolonged period.

M. Adam Hamdani, Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division at Bogor Regency BPBD, confirmed that flooding began entering residential areas around 5:15 PM WIB. The overflowing water affected Kampung Babakan Cicerewed, covering several RTs in RW 01, RW 02, RW 06, and RW 09.

“Due to prolonged heavy rainfall, the Cijayanti River overflowed, directly impacting residential areas,” Adam stated in the official Pusdalops-PB BPBD Bogor Regency report.

Initial rapid assessments showed water levels varying between 70 centimetres and up to 150 centimetres (1.5 metres) in affected areas. A total of 138 households, comprising approximately 456 people, were impacted.

In addition to submerging hundreds of homes, the floodwaters caused significant infrastructure damage. One house owned by resident Enjuh in RT 03 RW 01 was reported to have collapsed due to severe damage. Fortunately, the two-person household managed to escape and is now staying with nearby relatives.

BPBD confirmed no casualties or injuries were reported from the flood.

A joint team comprising Bogor Regency BPBD, the Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar), Babakan Madang Subdistrict Police, village officials, Disaster Resilient Village Volunteers (Destana), and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) were deployed to the site for emergency response.

Adam explained that measures taken included rapid assessments, coordination with local authorities, disaster education for residents, and pumping out water from severely flooded areas.

“The immediate need for affected residents is emergency logistics assistance,” he added.

By Sunday night, water levels had begun to recede. Residents, alongside the joint team, began cleaning up residual mud and standing water that had entered their homes.

Victims of floods and landslides in Megamendung Village, Megamendung Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, received aid from PT Pertamina Gas.

They noted spatial planning violations in West Java, particularly in the Puncak area, which is the upper catchment of the Ciliwung River Basin and a key water absorption zone.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry will investigate spatial planning violations in West Java.

According to Bogor BPBD, there were at least 21 landslide incidents and seven flood and other disaster points spread across 33 villages and subdistricts in 18 districts.
