133 bus drivers ticketed

CIREBON, West Java: Cirebon Police in West Java have punished
at least 133 inter-city bus drivers for breaching various traffic
regulations in the city.

At least five of them had their operational licenses revoked
for serious breaches revealed during traffic inspections, known
as 'Zebra Lodaya 2002' on buses passing along the city's roads.

The revocations were made as the drivers had committed similar
violations many times, Cirebon Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr.
Siswandi said on Thursday.

He said the police also revoked the driving licenses of the
five bus drivers.

Siswandi said the 133 buses belong to at least 42 state-owned
and private operators.

Of the 42 bus operators, state-owned bus firm Damri was the
most persistent violator of traffic regulations, he added.

The violations included passing main roads in the city center
at times when a ban on buses and other large vehicles was in
force. --JP
