132 Riau scouts leave for Malaysia

PEKANBARU, Riau: A total of 132 boy and girl scouts from the
province left for Malaysia on Friday to join the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) scout camp meeting being held in
the neighboring country.

Azwar, coach of the Riau contingent, said the ASEAN camp
meeting, which would run for five days from Nov. 10 until Nov.
14, 2001 was expected to enhance brotherhood and cooperation
among member countries' scouts.

"We are leaving for Malaysia to represent Indonesia," he said
before boarding the ship transporting them to the Malaysian city
of Johor.

Before the contingent's departure, Pekanbaru Mayor Herman
Abdullah asked the scouts to act as "ambassadors" to promote
Indonesia among the meeting's participants. --Antara
