13-Year-Old Boy Dies from Electrocution on Electricity Pole, South Tangerang Transport Agency Urges Residents to Report Faulty Streetlights
The Transport Department (Dishub) of South Tangerang City is urging residents to report to them any damaged or problematic public street lighting poles (PJU).
This request comes after a boy with initials RD (13) died, allegedly due to electrocution from an electric current from a PJU pole.
“If you see a leaning PJU pole, exposed cables, or other issues, please report it immediately,” said the Head of the South Tangerang City Transport Department, Ayep Jajat Sudrajat, when confirmed via WhatsApp on Tuesday (12/5/2026).
The reports will then be followed up by Dishub Tangsel, particularly those related to safety.
In addition to asking residents to report actively, Dishub Tangsel is also inspecting the PJU poles at the incident site.
Although there is no longer any electric current, they will still investigate the cause of the electrical leakage on the PJU pole, from weather factors to cable damage.
“We are currently conducting checks to find the exact cause of the electrical leak on that PJU pole,” he said.
They will strengthen supervision and routine inspections of the PJU conditions in Tangsel.
“Previously, our focus was on accelerating the construction of PJU, so the next focus is on maintenance and periodic checks,” he said.
It is known that RD died after being electrocuted by a street lighting pole while chasing a kite on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
“The victim was chasing a kite at that time and was holding onto the lighting electricity pole from the Public Works Department,” said Dhady when confirmed by Kompas.com via WhatsApp on Thursday (7/5/2026).
