Economic recovery in regions affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra is demonstrating significant progress. One key indicator is the increase in transactions by small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Spokesperson for the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR), Amran, stated that data from his office on 8 May 2026 recorded a rise in SME transactions via e-commerce platforms reaching 13,209,182.

The breakdown shows 87,746 transactions with 1,396 products in Aceh. In North Sumatra, there were 9,781,946 transactions with 631 products. In West Sumatra, 3,339,490 transactions involved 101 products.

“This total reflects an increase of up to 77 percent compared to the end of April, when SME transactions on e-commerce platforms in the three Sumatra disaster-affected regions only reached 7,461,422,” Amran said in his statement on Sunday, 10 May 2026.

This achievement in rising SME transactions on e-commerce platforms coincides with the accelerated distribution of economic stimulus aid, provided to support the livelihoods of disaster survivors in the three affected areas.

In detail, Rp 250.48 billion out of a total Rp 254.44 billion in economic stimulus aid has been evenly distributed to disaster survivors in Aceh. In North Sumatra, Rp 53.38 billion out of Rp 62.90 billion has been massively disbursed to survivors. In West Sumatra, Rp 16.83 billion out of Rp 17.74 billion has been distributed to survivors.

Amran emphasised that the economic recovery of disaster survivors is the top priority in the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for the Sumatra disaster. He noted that economic activities in the three affected regions are gradually recovering.

This aligns with the restoration of economic indicators, including SME recovery, distribution of People’s Business Credit (KUR), and market improvements.

“We continue to push for economic enhancement; economic activities are nearly fully complete,” Amran said.

As a follow-up step, Amran affirmed that the PRR Task Force will soon complete repairs to untouched markets in the three affected areas. This measure aims to fully restore the economic wheel for communities in the disaster regions.

“In West Sumatra, it’s already 100 percent (markets). In North Sumatra, 98 percent, and in Aceh, 89 percent. So, only a few markets are being maximised to be occupied as soon as possible,” he stated.
