JAKARTA: Thirteen people have been killed and more than 30 others injured in bus accidents in Lampung and Southeast Sulawesi.

In Lampung, eight people were killed, two seriously injured, four slightly hurt and three missing when the bus they were traveling in plunged into a river Tuesday, a Press report said yesterday.

The accident happened Tuesday morning when the bus carrying at least 17 people plunged into the Sungkai Negara Ratu River in northern Lampung after the bridge it was crossing collapsed.

Antara, quoting an official of the northern Lampung office of transportation, said that the exact number of people on board the bus was not known.

The latest body found yesterday was that of a 24 year-old woman, which was adrift 30 meters from the site of accident.

In Southeast Sulawesi, an accident happened near Bau-bau yesterday when a packed bus skidded into a ravine. Five people were killed and 33 others were injured.

The police said the accident happened because the bus driver lost control of the speeding bus on a winding road. (pan)
