13 Impacts of Vaping on the Body
Vaping involves inhaling and exhaling aerosol produced by electronic cigarettes or similar devices. In these devices, liquid is heated by a heating element to produce an aerosol for the user to inhale. Many vape liquids contain nicotine, which can lead to addiction. Nicotine can affect brain development, which continues into young adulthood, and can stimulate the nervous system, causing an increased heart rate. The use of nicotine can also cause blood vessel constriction, contributing to higher blood pressure.
Vaping can trigger coughing, dry throat, and respiratory tract irritation. Exposure to chemicals in vape aerosols can affect lung health, and nicotine, along with other chemicals, can have adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. As a stimulant, nicotine can cause insomnia or poor sleep quality. Some users experience headaches due to exposure to nicotine or specific substances in the vape liquid. Additionally, vaping can reduce saliva production, leading to dry mouth, and can affect the health of oral tissues and gums. Respiratory disturbances can subsequently impair physical activity or exercise performance. Vape aerosols may contain various chemicals that potentially pose negative health impacts if inhaled over the long term.
Vaping can lead to various health impacts, ranging from nicotine addiction and respiratory disorders to an increased risk of heart disease. For adolescents, the risks to brain development and nicotine dependence are of particular concern. Although often considered safer than conventional cigarettes, vaping still poses health risks, especially for teenagers, because nicotine can interfere with development.
Deputy Minister of Health Benyamin Paulus Octavianus has revealed a drastic surge in findings of drugs within vape liquids targeting the youth and students. The Ministry of Health warns that the dangers of vaping are comparable to conventional cigarettes, noting that 1ml of vape liquid is equivalent to 20 cigarettes. Kadin Jatim (the East Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry) will also push for regulatory improvements to prevent the use of vapes as a medium for narcotics by illegal syndicates. Furthermore, Cipinang Class I Prison, in synergy with the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), has uncovered suspected involvement of inmates in the distribution of etomidate-infused vapes. It is vital to understand the dangers of etomidate abuse in vapes, ranging from adrenal suppression to the risk of fatal respiratory failure.
