13 Countries Ready to Enliven Kite Festival in Garut
The Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud) of Garut Regency, West Java, has announced that kite enthusiasts from 13 countries, including Indonesia, are set to participate in an international kite festival to be held in the mountainous region of Tepas Papandayan, Cisurupan District, Garut. Head of Disparbud Garut, Beni Yoga Gunasantika, stated on Tuesday that as of Monday (15/6), 13 countries had already registered. The festival will feature participants from abroad as well as from various regions within Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, South Sumatra, and South Kalimantan. The international participants will come from Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China, Switzerland, Sweden, France, Italy, and Belgium. The Garut Regency government is fully supportive of the event, viewing it as a means to attract a significant number of tourists to the area. Beni noted that the selection of Garut as the venue holds a special appeal for international kite flyers, as such festivals are typically held in coastal areas, whereas this one will take place in a mountainous setting. Preparations are underway to improve infrastructure to support the festival destination, particularly the repair of access roads, which is currently in progress. The event is planned to run for five days, from 29 July to 2 August 2026, at the Tepas Papandayan agro-tourism site in Cisurupan District, located at the foot of Mount Papandayan.
