13,859 Personnel Deployed to Secure Flag Procession and People's Party for Indonesia's Independence Day in Jakarta
A total of 13,859 joint personnel have been deployed to secure the entire series of events commemorating the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence in Jakarta on Monday (17/8). The tight security operation involves the Metro Jaya Regional Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Jakarta Provincial Government.
The national agenda under security focus includes the flag-raising and lowering ceremonies at the State Palace, the Red and White Flag procession, the People’s Party, MSME bazaars, carnivals, and entertainment stages in the capital’s central area.
Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the deployment of thousands of personnel is intended to ensure all events proceed safely, orderly, and conducively.
“The joint force consists of 7,105 Metro Jaya Police personnel, 2,042 personnel from resort police stations, and 4,712 BKO (Under Operational Control) personnel,” Budi said in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).
He detailed that the BKO personnel include 3,573 TNI personnel, 500 Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) personnel, 300 Sabhara Corps personnel from the National Police’s Security Maintenance Agency, 198 Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) personnel, 91 Fire Department personnel, and 50 Transportation Agency personnel.
Integrated security has been placed at several vital points, from the State Palace area, the National Monument (Monas), Medan Merdeka Street, MH Thamrin Street, Sarinah, to the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, including along the route of the Red and White Flag procession.
In addition to focusing on securing event locations, the police have placed 2,116 personnel specifically for traffic management. Traffic engineering will be implemented situationally based on congestion conditions on the ground.
“For members of the public who will be active around the State Palace, Monas, MH Thamrin Street, and the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout, they are advised to account for travel time and comply with the directions of officers in the field,” Budi said.
The Metro Jaya Police are also coordinating across agencies to provide health services, emergency handling, and public assistance centres. Residents who need police assistance during the celebrations can contact the toll-free National Police Call Centre 110.
