13,318 Residents in Seven Klaten Villages Affected by Drought

Residents affected by drought in Klaten Regency, Central Java, now number 3,968 households or 13,318 people. The clean water crisis experienced by thousands of residents during this dry season continues to grow.

Meanwhile, the impact of the drought in Klaten Regency has now spread to the slopes of Mount Merapi, covering Kemalang District (4 villages), Jatinom District (1 village), Cawas District (1 village), and Wedi District (1 village).

The Head of Emergency and Logistics at the Klaten Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Anjung Darojati, said that residents of the seven drought-affected villages are continuing to receive clean water assistance. The total number of beneficiaries is 3,968 households or 13,318 people.

BPBD Klaten has been carrying out clean water distribution since 15 June 2026, primarily to assist residents of four villages in Kemalang District: Tlogowatu, Tegalmulyo, Kendalsari, and Sidorejo.

“For water distribution activities, BPBD Klaten has distributed a total of 598 tanks, equivalent to 2,990,000 litres, to the seven drought-affected villages from 15 June to 22 August 2026,” said Anjung on Sunday (23/8).

The 598 tanks of water assistance were distributed to drought-affected areas in Kemalang District: Tlogowatu received 154 tanks (1,178 households/3,475 people), Tegalmulyo 171 tanks (1,068 households/3,624 people), Kendalsari 100 tanks (380 households/1,397 people), and Sidorejo 160 tanks (945 households/3,285 people).

Additionally, Bandungan Village in Jatinom District received 9 tanks (35 households/140 people); Kaligayam Village in Wedi District received 3 tanks (362 households/1,297 people); and Burikan Village in Cawas District received 1 tank (100 people).

“To handle the drought-affected areas this dry season, BPBD Klaten has prepared 1,000 tanks of clean water, with the budget sourced from the 2026 Klaten regional budget,” said Anjung Darojati, Head of Emergency and Logistics.
