13,020 tourists visit Thousand Islands during Waisak holiday
A total of 13,020 domestic and international tourists visited various tourist destinations in the Thousand Islands, Jakarta Special Capital Region, over the two-day Waisak holiday period on Saturday (30 May) and Sunday (31 May).
“These visitors arrived via multiple entry points to the Thousand Islands, including those in Jakarta and Tangerang,” said Fahmi Ardi Ramlan, head of the Sub-District Tourism and Creative Economy Office of Thousand Islands, on Monday.
He detailed that 6,110 people visited the northern Jakarta islands on Saturday, followed by 6,910 on Sunday.
According to Fahmi, the Thousand Islands’ proximity to Jakarta makes it a popular choice for tourists during the Waisak holiday. He expects numbers to rise further with the Pancasila Day holiday today, stating, “Visitor numbers will continue to increase today, with data still being collected.”
Previously, 2,031 visitors enjoyed the long weekend holiday at Untung Jawa Island in the Thousand Islands Regency. The high visitor numbers indicate the island remains a popular choice for families and relatives to holiday together. Local authorities have been monitoring key tourist spots to ensure safety, comfort, and order during the holiday period.
